Touching the Sky

111 Steinway felt like I was reaching new heights and starting to overcome some of my fears when it comes to the dangers of this hobby. It might all seem like it’s fun and games, but we know it is mostly calculated risk. 111 Steinway also known as Steinway Tower is the worlds skinniest super tall skyscraper, standing at 1,428 feet.

No safety harness, no type of real precautions were taken, just a goal to reach the top. After climbing 84 stories and about 252 feet in ladders, we finally made it to the top of the tower. This feeling was surreal and something I could not truly fathom. I’m typically not afraid of heights but this was a new level for me. I felt weary standing on this roof because of how small it was. For reference it felt like I was standing on a floating structure that was as big as that piece of wood from the end scene of the titanic.

We reached the top while it was still dark and as sun began to rise the city filled with a haze that soon began to turn purple. It felt like something out of a dream because the city illuminated purple but the massive size of NYC seemed to be like a microscopic animation I saw from an unrealistic point of view.
